Futbol was a major topic at the 23rd Annual Hispanic Television Summit. Fernando Palomo, ESPN Deportes play-by-play commentator, Manuel de la Fe, VP of Production at ESPN, and Nicolás García Hemme, Managing Director of LaLiga North America, participated in the panel “How Futbol Content Keeps Scoring GOOOOOALS with Viewers,” moderated by Adriana Waterston, Senior VP of Insights at Horowitz Research, M/A/R/C.
Palomo shared his experience on how soccer’s popularity has evolved since he arrived in the U.S. about 25 years ago to today, when soccer content is now accessible to everyone.
García Hemme highlighted that the U.S. is LaLiga’s largest media market outside of Spain.
De la Fe noted that with ESPN’s new DTC platform, ESPN+, there is no “cannibalization” of viewership and emphasized that they have ensured all LaLiga matches are available on the platform.
