The series El César (26X60') by Disney, TV Azteca and BTF Media, launched in Las Vegas on the eve of the fight between Pacquiao and Bradley from the MGM Grand, would turn into the main dish of the 2017 programming, according to executives present in the event. Azteca 7, Telemundo y Space, already confirmed screens. Fernando Barbosa, senior Distribution and Programming VP at Disney Media Latin America, said that Julio César Chávez was one of the few idols in Mexico and the Hispanic market in the US, and, out of the champion’s personal decision to reveal everything with details, they were expecting a daring and juicy series. Rodrigo Fernández, general director of Azteca 7, recently promoted, stated that the series would be ready in July 2017 and would be one of their strong contents. The other partner of the co-production, Francisco Cordero, CEO of BTF Media, who for the first time is in a business partnership with Disney as co-producers, mentioned that for LA Screenings, they might announce part of the talent, the scriptwriter, director and DP. Chávez assured that there would be many different things: sadness, suffering, happiness. Leonardo Aranguibel, Production Director at Disney LatAm, rated the story as dazzling and extraordinary. Barbosa stressed that there are lots of films on boxing, but this is the first 26-episode TV series. He expressed Disney’s goal to generate evergreen content that remains relevant for all platforms, and El César fits perfectly in that line.
