Al Jazeera: We are working to launch the channel Al Jazeera in Spanish

“We have the goal of launching Al Jazeera in Spanish and for Mexico to be the headquarters”, Joaquín Fuentes, editor in Chief of the Al Jazeera office in Mexico, told PRODU. It is one of the largest correspondents in the region.For over a year, Fuentes has led the Mexico headquarters. “My role is to coordinate the content that is generated in Mexico. I am in continuous communication with the offices in Doha, London and Washington and I oversee the aspect of security, among other things”, he explained.He stated that in one year the channel in Spanish will be on the air. “It will be a 100% news channel with 24 hours of information, equivalent to Al Jazeera in English”.Joaquín Fuentes is also an anchor in the Milenio group, where he leads a project for the development of special or investigative reports.“I am the only journalist that is also an anchor, who does investigation reports. The aim is to add three or more reporters to make a team that carries out special reports. My role will be to coordinate the content these reporters develop and to oversee the quality of the editorial product”, he explained.Fuentes worked previously at Univision, which he left in 2014 to joing the Al Jazeera project, and he has been in Milenio since June 2015, although he had already worked with this news group before starting as a Univision correspondent in Mexico.
