BBC Studios closed a deal at Mipcom that gives Globo Group in Brazil exclusive rights to BBC’s longest-running global franchise Doctor Who as well as a host of other content. All current 11 seasons and specials will soon become available to Globoplay subscribers in Brazil. As part of the deal, the streamer will also be the exclusive home for the upcoming season 12.

In addition, Globo Group has licensed iconic BBC Studios crime drama Luther, starring Idris Elba, the Richard Gere-led series MotherFatherSon, Press from acclaimed writer of Doctor Foster, as well as Pure starring newcomer Charly Clive, Peter Moffat drama The Last Post, and a variety of documentaries and factual content.

“We hope all loyal Doctor Who fans find this news to be exciting – the offer of exclusive access to catch up on seasons 1 – 10; season 11 which saw the premiere of the first female Doctor in Jodie Whittaker; and crucially the new, upcoming season 12 – whenever and wherever they want via Globoplay, the SVoD platform of Brazil’s biggest broadcaster. All of this plus an exclusive library of some of our most revered titles across a variety of different genres. We couldn’t be more pleased,” said James Wildbore, VP Senior & general manager for Latin America and U.S. Hispanic, BBC Studios.
