Univision saw a lot of expansion and growth in 2012 with the launch of three new channels and the announcement of the re-launch of TeleFutura to become UniMás, César Conde, president of Univision, told PRODU during the network’s UniMás unveiling event in New York City Dec. 3. “UniMás for us is the new chapter for TeleFutura. Our mission for the channel has always been to assure its establishment as the second Spanish-language channel behind Univision. Telefutura has already reached that point for many parts of the day and the week, but we still need that it established itself stronger,” he said. Programming on the revamped channel will be geared to a millennial audience composed mostly of men, though inevitably open to other audiences. For 2013, the company will focus on continuing the strategy it has established this year, including assuring the growth of all its new channels, guaranteeing a successful launch of UniMás, and seeing that Uvideos, the company’s digital channel, has the strength of their traditional open TV platforms.Conde also spoke about the new venture between Univision, Disney and ABC News to launch an English-language news channel geared at the Hispanic community. “I think there’s a lot of enthusiasm, not only from Univision and Disney, but from the market because it’s a product that many have been waiting for”.
