Comcast introduces Internet Essentials

Internet Essentials will provide low-cost Internet service, affordable computers and digital literacy training

David Cohen, Comcast’s Regional Senior Vice President of the Florida East Coast Region, unveiled the national initiative Internet Essentials in the historic district of Overtown in Miami. In attendance were Tomás Regalado, Mayor of Miami; Alberto Carvalho, Miami-Dade County School Superintendent; Wendy Spencer, Executive Director of Volunteer Florida; and Filemón López Executive VP of Comcast.The program offers solutions to what are considered three of the biggest barriers to broadband adoption: lack of understanding of the importance and usefulness of Internet, the cost of a home computer, and the cost of Internet service.Internet Essentials will provide low-cost Internet service, affordable computers and digital literacy training.Internet Essentials will be available to low-income families living in Comcast’s service areas with children who are eligible to receive a free lunch under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
