Rubén Mendiola, VP and general manager of Multicultural Video Services of Comcast, spoke to PRODU about the capabilities of the new X1 platform, which will go online in the U.S. at the end of the year, and the new X2 generation that would soon follow.“We’re excited because we’re launching the new generation of the Xfinity entertainment platform, called X1. It’s new software that allows you to discover what to watch; it’s your guide, it’s your recommendations, but it’s much more. For the first time, all this content and the software is on the cloud. Now we can adapt it, improve it, change it, and send it back down to all subscribers with the X1 box. It’s exciting because this allows us to constantly offer our subscribers the latest in software,” said Mendiola. He said that in the past, in order to update or change the software, they had to replace the boxes. With X1, that’s no longer necessary and Comcast is introducing it at The Cable Show. “It has been a great success,” he added.Mendiola points out the goal of this platform is for technology to be as intuitive and simple as possible for the subscriber. “We’re working to offer customers the most modern and updated guide in the market while keeping it easy to use, so that people can enjoy the best entertainment experience possible,” he added.
