David Zaslav, CEO of Discovery Inc., said on Communacopia —the Goldman Sachs investors conference— that their new direct-to-consumer streaming service will be launched very soon.

The firm had already unveiled last year that they were working on a project. Now, another platform will join the OTT ecosystem which Disney+, Pluto (ViacomCBS), HBO Max (Warner), Apple TV+, and Peacock (NBCUniversal) entered in the past year.

The executive commented that this initiative will seek to compete in the disputed global market. “We are going to arrive with a film library of new content, a huge amount of originals, at a time when the path has already been paved by Netflix, Disney, and HBO,” explains Zaslav.

Discovery Inc. groups a series of thematic channels such as Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, Animal Planet and TLC, which could become a differentiator of this new platform.
