Ben Silverman, founder of Reveille and former co-chairman of NBC Entertainment, along with Luis Balaguer and Sofía ‘Toti’ Vergara of LatinWe, will be responsible for developing the first professional Youtube channel in Spanish.Reportedly, Google, Youtube’s mother company, will invest US$100 million in the launch of about 20 fiction-content professional TV channels that will compete in all platforms, including free- and pay-TV. Silverman has had a successful career producing series, which include The office and Uggly Betty, the U.S. version of Betty la fea. Balaguer, besides being a successful talent agent, is the producer of Viva Hollywood and Viva la familia for Univisión. He has been Sofía Vergara’s manager since 1995 and he is credited with introducing her to the U.S. general market, particularly to the series Modern family, one of today’s most successful sitcoms.Last April, PRODU reported that the Silverman-Balaguer-Vergara trio pitched to ABC the sitcom I hate this place, an adaptation of the Spanish format Aquí no hay quien viva, which successfully aired on Antena 3 for three years.
