In an interview with the journalist Joaquin Lopez-Doriga during his nightly newscast Jan. 21 on Televisa’s Canal de las Estrellas, Emilio Azcarraga, president of Grupo Televisa, spoke about new projects and the challenges that the company faces in the U.S. through Univision.“The U.S. Hispanic is the most competitive market and Univision is already a network that competes with English-language channels. It’s a signal that has been in second place for a long time, and it has also been in first, and maybe third as well. It’s there that we hope Televisa’s content will be able to have success and compete” he said. Azcarraga spoke about Univision’s new English-language channel, being produced with ABC, which he said “represents a great opportunity to show Spanish-language content in English that we produce in Mexico. It’s an option to reach other latitudes in Spanish”. He emphasized that the measure of success for the network is based on the general market, which highlights a city like Los Angeles that has a large Hispanic population. The executive also announced that the program Punto de partida by Denise Maerker will air Mondays and Thursdays at 11:15 pm on Canal 2.
