Hugo Salgado, VP Distribution and Content at Emporio Films & Media, said that, even though content production has presented problems, in distribution there has been a great deal of activity. “We just closed a deal with Televisa for the distribution of 15 films and are working on a new agreement with Telemundo,” he said, after mentioning that they specialize in contemporary Mexican cinema.

Salgado sees an opportunity in canned content that is going to allow filling slots that won´t be able to have programming due to the paralyzation of production. They have a library of 200 or more contemporary Mexican films, as well as contents from Kore, China, and Japan.

“We are also developing projects, and using this time to make appointments with big production companies. The market has to make the most of this time, as well as the ease to read a script and watch a presentation, much more than when you are in the office in the day to day rhythm,” said Salgado.

He explained that they are focused on the sales of canned content to generate income. “There is currently a high demand for Mexican cinema. We expanded our library and have also received distribution offers and representation of content from Asia and Europe”.

Regarding the online meeting model, he mentioned that people are very flexible and open to receive presentations and meet through this means. “We might have to improve the methodology, but it is working very well. We are open to work under this model”.
