Rodrigo Aroca, the founding partner, and director of Guayabo Films commented that they are venturing into fiction stronger than ever and for 2020 they are driving a very ambitious historical fiction project. “We have approached several possible partners who were very receptive. It is still a very initial topic, but we are very enthusiastic about the meetings we held during MIP Cancún,” he said.

The fiction project tells the story of a real character who lived in the time of the conquest. “It is a story of redemption and love that revolves around the Mayas and why they were such an important and millenary culture,” said Aroca, who commented that he has always wanted to develop this story, that will have a very dynamic and contemporary structure.

Two other projects are documentaries. One of them touches the topic of transsexuality across 12 countries, seeking to normalize the topic, and the other is more local, because it is about food in Mexico, and speaks of its ingredients and social context, seeking to rescue cultures that have been lost due to social-political reasons, and that has a meeting point in food. “At the same time, we have two other projects with Casa Comedy, while we make commercials, videoclips and all types of contents for all types of platforms,” he said.
