According to Guillermo Sierra, Head of TV and Digital Services at HITN, in the current scenario of the industry consumers, rule and content are strictly personal.

“How do you reconcile having the most advanced production center in Latin America (referring to Telemundo Center) competing with someone who is producing from a garage with their camera that reaches 8 million views? It is truly a very complicated model to reconcile and we are seeing great media companies suffering this revolution, in which we are witnessing very important losses,” commented Sierra on the panel El Futuro de la TV Abierta Hacia la OTT y Multipantalla from NexTV CEO Latin America in Miami.

Sierra added that now we must find the best way to reach consumers. “There continue to be content such as sports and news that consumers will not stop watching, which require a very high production value and are only accessible through big companies.”

He mentioned the case of Netflix as “a very interesting model”. Netflix arises with the series model after studios decided to close the faucet and take movies away from them. “Netflix charged up its batteries, reinvented the series and binge-watching model that entirely changes the business model. We have to learn to co-exist with micro independent producers that generate a huge volume of views and which combined reach more audience than any studio or platform,” he adds.
