Hollywood sets up committee for reopening production

Steven Soderbergh, director of the pandemic thriller Contagion and former VP of Directors Guild of America (DGA), will lead a committee of the guild of directors to design guidelines for the guild to go back to work.

“The committee is consulting on the best epidemiologists in the field, and we will collaborate with our guilds and brother unions and with employers as we make a comprehensive guide to help us all return to work safely," said the president of DGA, Thomas Schlamme, in a letter sent to their members. “Be assured that this is something we have spent a lot of time thinking about."

Among other things, the group must evaluate the shooting with multitudes or on sets that are now areas of infection risk that insurance companies will probably not recognize. A second committee of the national board is evaluating strategies for movie theaters and promote the return to the theatrical experience.

The most optimistic forecasts establish the restart of productions from July to August, but the most realistic aim to be working by September. California is still under the order to stay at home, which ends on May 15.
