“I think that what we are experiencing is going to have a great impact on the next decade. There are cultural aspects that will change, such as the way we communicate, how we greet each other, and how we shake hands. Many of these things are going to change completely,” said to PRODU Carlos Lei, computing science engineer and co-founder of HypeLabs, a Porto company in Portugal.

“Health will be one of the most important points from now on, and for us, that society as a whole is healthy is essential, running tests, and obtaining an entirely private record and follow-up”.

The contribution of HypeLabs for this pandemic is its application CovidApp, that allows tracking possible infected people and keeping them under control: by hospitals to follow their development, and authorities to alert people who were near them. The application guarantees privacy in the entire chain that shares the information.

Damaris Valero, with a long and successful path as a TV executive, now works at HypeLabs, a company dedicated to connectivity, even without an Internet connection. She approached Lei, CEO of the company, to PRODU to be informed on the scope of CovidApp, an application that has already been implemented in several countries in South America, as a practical and immediate tool to control the progress of the disease.

Since the age of 14, Lei works on information technology and has been serving advanced companies and telcos. Porto is considered a sort of
Silicon Valley thanks to their digital developments.
