José Álvarez as new director of Canal Once: We will bet on being the best source of culture and information

José Álvarez assumed his position as new general director of Canal Once, as per the designation made by the President of Mexico, Andrés López Obrador. The Secretary of Public Education, Esteban Moctezuma, le swore him in the position.

Moctezuma summoned Álvarez to face the challenge of making Canal Once cultural, educational television project, of social service, that is inclusive and contributes to forming values. He emphasized that the channel has become one of the most multi-faceted media in the country.

For his part, Álvarez committed his efforts to expand the channel’s coverage and reach new audiences. “To attract millions of people to our screens, aiming to do it now in the most unprotected and underprivileged areas where there are no resources to acquire streamings nor pay TV, and where the channel of the Politécnico may be the best source of culture and information,” he assured.

He added that broadcasts of Mexico’s political and cultural diversity will remain open, as well as the contribution of broadcasting the values of scientific, cultural, technological, humanistic, and social culture; and scientific research that results from the activity of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional.

With an outstanding activity in public media, Álvarez has performed as sub-Director of Operations of Canal Once; News Director of Canal 13; General Director of Radio Educación, as well as General Director of the Instituto Mexicano de Televisión (Imevisión).

Jesús Ramírez, general coordinator of Social Communications of the Mexican Government; Jenaro Villamil, President of the Public Broadcasting System, and Mario Rodríguez, General Director of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional were present in the act.
