Kanal D: LatAm channels are demanding the best of the best

Kanal D International (KDI) is on MIPTV presenting Three Sisters, a series that, last week in Turkey, reached the top of viewers in all socioeconomic groups and gaining more week by week.

Three Sisters is a production of Süreç Film and the most recent title that KDI is offering throughout the world, including Latin America, a market where the Turkish presence is still very strong despite the increasing competition. “The channels are demanding the best of the best. I am noticing that there are fewer slots; instead of two slots in primetime and three in daytime, now there is one in primetime and one in daytime, so you must have the best to be in primetime. But there is still demand for competitive titles and local adaptation scripts are also selling, which means our stories continue to travel,” said Ekin Koyuncu, CEO of KDI.

Three Sisters is an adaptation of the literary trilogy Üç kız kardeşler, by the Turkish writer İclal Aydın, who also acts in the series, adding value to the production. The plot takes place at the end of the 90s in a small town in Turkey and tells the story of a married couple, he is the manager of the post office and she is the teacher of the only local school (role played by the writer İclal Aydı), both have three daughters and several secrets.

“Currently most Turkish stories are psychological dramas, crime dramas or big productions. Three Sisters reaches all audiences”, emphasized Koyuncu.

In two weeks KDI will start shooting a new romantic comedy that will be ready for June, followed soon by two new dramas for the new season. These products will be announced at LA Screenings.

MIPTV is for KDI its second face-to-face market since the pandemic began. “Mipcom was our first market, the assistance was not great, but being there was important. Our expectation for MIPTV was low, but honestly, we are very happy with the market turnout,” Koyuncu said.
