María Badillo named director of Programming and Acquisitions for Discovery U.S. Hispanic

Discovery U.S. Hispanic has named María Badillo director of Programming and Acquisitions for the company’s portfolio of Spanish-language networks, which includes Discovery en Español and Discovery Familia. In her new role, Badillo will be responsible for developing the networks’ programming strategy, while working with all other divisions to create new ways of maximizing programming impact on revenues and ratings. This will comprise overseeing the operational flow from evaluation to acquisitions and scheduling of all content. Badillo will now report to Eileen Piñeiro, director of Content, U.S. Hispanic.“María is an extremely valuable member of our team who has a keen eye for selecting and drawing out the best resources for growing the business. This and her extensive industry background and leading edge experience with the latest technologies make her the ideal candidate for this position,” said Piñeiro.Prior to her new role, Badillo served as Branded Entertainment producer in charge of the development of entertainment concepts/programs, as well as the management of the Branded Entertainment Solutions team at Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic. Her responsibilities extended to the implementation of multiplatform initiatives, including new media.From 2007 to 2009, Badillo held the position of SVP of Programming at ¡Sorpresa!, where she spearheaded production and development, on-air, new media and programming operations for the U.S. Hispanic market.
