For the first quarter of this year, NBCUniversal International Networks plans to launch DreamWorks, a children’s channel aimed at ages 5 to 10, with high-quality series produced based on iconic characters and blockbuster movies, announced to PRODU Gus O’Brien, general director of NBCUniversal International Networks and DTC for Latin America.

O’Brien added that the signal will include on-demand content to complement the VOD offer of its subscribers. DreamWorks will be a low-tier commercial channel that joins the NBCUniversal portfolio that already includes UniversalTV, E! Entertainment, Telemundo Internacional, STUDIO Universal, and SYFY.

He also revealed that this January they will be expanding the distribution of its Universal+ platform, which was launched last December, in Claro, Izzi, Antina, Nuevo Siglo, TCC, Montecable, and Zapping systems, among others.

“Although it is still too early to say, we are very satisfied with the market reception. At NBCUniversal, we strive to be a real partner of choice for our clients. The way we have established Universal+, with five linear brands and extensive VOD, allows us to support the premium, basic or broadband subscription businesses that our clients have worked hard to build,” he expressed.

He explained that the decision to include the five initial channels that currently makeup Universal+ (Universal+ Premiere, Universal+ Cinema, Universal+ Crime, Universal+ Comedy, and Universal+ Reality) derives from the fact that they are “one of the main media and entertainment companies in the world, which gives us access to a large amount of content. We set out to create distinctive destinations that appeal to fans of specific content, combining the most popular entertainment genres with the strength of NBCUniversal.”
