New Hispanic channel Servicio Centroamericano de Noticias (Sercano) launches in the U.S. on May 1st

Sercano (Servicio Centroamericano de Noticias) was introduced to clients and media at an event held at Bongo’s in downtown Miami. The channel seeks to offer news and relevant information to the Central American communities living in the U.S.The channel is part of Hondura’s Grupo Abriendo Brecha Corporación (ABC), which owns Televisora Educativa Nacional (TEN) channel 10 as well as several radio stations and a large editorial group in that country. The launch is scheduled for May 1st. Although initially it will only be available online, in the near future the channel expects to join several pay-TV systems (cable and telcos) as well as other distribution platforms.Channel President Rodrigo Wong Arévalo told PRODU the ABC group has the financial support of three important banks in Honduras.Wong also said the channel will sign programming agreements with U.S. Hispanic broadcast channels that would air Sercano’s content.The channel will be headquartered in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and will have offices in Miami. It’s scheduled to produce six hours of news about Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panamá.Iconika Entertainment Partners, headed by José Pérez, Rita Hernández and Ángel Matos, all executives with vast experience in U.S. Hispanic TV, is consulting on the project.
