(Maribel Ramos-Weiner). Latin Music Talent, Jerry Brenner and Carlos Pimentel, owners of the Menudo brand, and Plural Entertainment in Miami, have joined forces to produce a reality that will give birth to the new Menudo band. The project’s launch platform will be digital media, which will be used for the preliminary screening of boys aspiring to be part of the band that became a global phenomenon in the 80’s. There already are two large networks interested in airing the show, one in Mexico and another in the U.S. for the Hispanic market. The website for nominating candidates is expected to be operational within a month.PRODU interviewed Álvaro Garnica, General Manager of Content and Production of Plural Entertainment; Víctor Oliva, CEO of Latin Music Talent and partner in the Menudo project; Eduardo Pardo, Director and Development and Creative Head; and Mari Urdaneta, General Producer, Content Development and Creative Head; both from Plural, to get some insights on the project.“Unlike the original Menudo, our intention is for the casting to include all Latin America. Candidates have to be complete artists: dance, voice, and stage presence,” said Urdaneta. The executives explained the idea for this project is to create a band that endures and that, as was the case with the original, becomes a phenomenon in and of itself, transcending the reality and generating other products such as concerts and brand integrations, among others.
