ProMéxico announced 105 companies are representing the country at Mipcom 2014, where Mexico will be country of honor. Karla Mawcinitt, general coordinator of Communications and Image of ProMéxico, said there would be several activities and development of apps to promote the creative industry in this market, which represents 7% of gross domestic product (GDP).“In this new government, the idea is to convene all the Mexican companies in this industry so that they attend Cannes. This is how we managed to bring 105 companies that never considered the possibility of coming to France. We’re bringing large national networks like Televisa and Azteca, producers like El Mall, as well as some international companies like BBC and Discovery,” added Mawcinitt. She said that ProMéxico would be launching for the first time the National Public Television, product of the newly approved Telecommunications Reform, “with the goal of having investors explore this sector and for them to know that in Mexico we have five public channels that explore the culture and general subjects, from the history of Mexico to the latest news.”Finally, she emphasized that large international companies increasingly saw Mexico as an ideal setting to carry out large productions, “not just for TV, but also for film.”
