Rick Rodríguez, who, since October 2014 joined Meruelo Media as general manager of Meruelo Televisión, has just been promoted to COO of Meruelo Media with the mission of carrying forward the launching of the super station LA1, expand the content library of Súper 22 –especially the film catalogue–, be in charge of news production and to continue helping in the studio operations. He will begin his first great commercial product begins next month. He told PRODU that LA1 will be launched in the last third of the year, and the idea is to carry forward the existing operation of Súper 22 with new content for its nationwide distribution. “The goal is for it to be the first super station in the Spanish language”, he states. Aside from movies, its programming will include news and talk shows, produced by them and they will resort to local production companies to generate realities and documentaries.“South California has a population profile that offers a great opportunity for a channel that celebrates Latinos in the US: multigenerational, of mixed cultures, with more acculturated audiences. We have a specific point of view that we want to place on the screen and that is why we must start from scratch”, he explained. He mentioned that one of the new realities they are working on is about charrería (Mexican rodeo). He said he felt very well working with Otto Padrón, president and CEO of Meruelo Media, whom he knows since they worked together in Miami, before Padrón joined Univision and he joined Discovery.
