THEMA America announced that Telemicro Internacional will broadcast selected matches of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM for its Spanish initials).

The league consists of six teams, representing different cities of the Caribbean country. Among its players are stars of the U.S. major and minor leagues, and other Dominican players, who also play for teams in Japan and Mexico. In 2017, Telemicro acquired the rights for exclusive broadcasts of all matches between the Tigres del Licey and the Águilas Cibaeñas.

“For baseball fans around the world, the Dominican Winter Baseball League season is very important, one of the country’s key events,” said Patrick Rivet, CEO of THEMA America, a market leader in the distribution of thematic channels, which represents Telemicro Internacional. He added that “The months during which the league plays are busy ones for fans in the Dominican Republic. They live, and enjoy, the season to the maximum. Throughout the country, there are sporting events and celebrations that attract thousands of spectators, and a large captive audience, which loves live sports broadcasts.”

The league, which is variously known as the Dominican Winter Baseball League, the Dominican Professional Baseball League, or just the Dominican League, consists of teams that follow a regular league schedule. This year’s season started with an opening match between the Leones del Escogido and the Tigres del Licey on Saturday, October 12 and ends on December 17.

Four teams will qualify for the playoffs, which consist of a round-robin tournament in the first three weeks of January, in which each team plays 18 games. The top two teams then play a best-five-of-seven final series for the championship. The winning team will represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series against the champions of Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Cuba, which recently joined the series.

Telemicro Internacional can be seen on Optimum, XFINITY, Sling, RCN, Verizon FiOS, and Frontier, among other providers.
