Erick Brêtas, Chief Digital Officer at Globo, said that the large US streaming platforms are competing with local forces (Blim in Mexico, Stan in Australia, Joyn in Germany, ViaPlay in Sweden) and that Globoblay can compete over the leadership in Brazil.
The investment made in technology and original content enables Globoplay to count with immediate viewer-comment formats. "We produce, launch, and immediately realize what works," said Brêtas.
Palantir (Silicon Valley) built the Globoplay data-engineering platform. Brêtas, in fact, moved to Palo Alto to establish a new commercial office and undertake the digital transformation. Today, Globoplay can measure all the aspects of its content (subscribers watch one episode after another, the scenes that best work, content that achieves the best ROI, etc.).
Recently, with all its direct-to-consumer products, Globo reached 101.6 million registered users.
Regarding content, he said that the Globoplay Originals embody the new content philosophy with the arrival of streaming. “It preserves the same quality that consecrated Globo in the global entertainment market, but with some twists: quality per episode is higher; the plots are more intricate; characters are more complex”.
Desalma, Aruanas, Harassment, Iron Island, In the Name of God, Renegade Archangel are some of the titles. In 2021 they will launch Where is My Heart, The Evandro Case, and the flagship Secret Truths 2.
