Twitter has operated in Latin America since September 2012 (through IMS Social), collaborating with agencies and businesses in Miami (US), as well as Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Panama, among other countries in the region. Twitter’s first office in LatAm was Brazil, where the regional headquarters is located. Leading this office is Guilherme Ribenboim, VP for Twitter Latin America. Last week, the second office in the region opened its doors in Mexico. Wednesday this week, the third office that will address the region, was opened in Miami. The team there is led by Marco Botero, Sales director at Twitter Miami, and Matthew Drinkwater, Agency Relations director for Twitter Latin America. During the presentation to the media, Ribenboim highlighted that Latin America is key in Twitter’s global development plan. He mentioned that the region generates US$4.5 billion in digital advertising investment, according to Comscore, IAB, eMarketer and Internet World Stats; it has 300 million users in Internet and generates more than 80 million tweets per day. He said the users in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil tend to share more topics online than the global user. Ribenboim pointed out that Miami is key for the growth in Latin America, due to the proximity with great agencies, brands and amount of TV channels in the area. He stressed that Twitter is TV’s best friend, because it is live. Twitter Miami is located on Brickell Avenue.
