In the current situation, the role of information acquires an even greater value and according to Daniel Coronell, president of Univision Noticias, “facts must be told as they are and must be backed by verified data and scientific validation, avoiding headlines, adjectives, or images that alarm the audience unnecessarily. At the same time, it is necessary to think that we work for the citizens and not for any government´s conveniences”.

Coronell highlights that the essential duty “is to publish verified information that allows our audience to understand the topic, listen to the concepts of experts and convey their recommendations so they can make informed decisions. Many aspects of coronavirus and its consequences continue to be object of study and there are no final conclusions. It is very important for journalists to apply the most demanding standards of the occupation by informing about the disease and its, until now, unpredictable social and economic consequences”.
