US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker: Access to high speed Internet is key

The last day of INTX, the general session began with a conversation between the president and CEO of NCTA, Michael Powell and the US Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, about the opportunities and risks that the Internet poses.“The Department of Commerce wants to work together with the private sector in matters they are concerned with, that is why we created a Broadband Committee, whose purpose is to increase broadband. President Obama has made it a priority for education and innovation”, expressed Pritzker. She said that the committee is open to the suggestions of the private sector until June 10th. “The President wants to have defined a set of regulations and recommendations for this area by August 23”, she said.The staff member pointed out that access to high speed Internet is key.”We are in the middle of a revolution and evolution that I had never seen before in my life”, she stated.She indicated that 65% of children nowadays will have in 25 years jobs that have not been created yet. “In the next 25 years we will have many innovations”.
