Hemisphere Media Group, Inc. announced that WAPA América, the cable network arm of WAPA-TV, Puerto Rico’s leading broadcaster, is the highest-rated Spanish-language cable network in total audience from 5-7pm Monday through Friday for the 2014-15 TV season through November 29, according to Nielsen. WAPA América became a nationally rated Nielsen cable network in August, and is already out-performing Hispanic cable networks with far larger subscriber bases, including Galavisión, mun2, Univision Deportes, and FOX Deportes, in certain dayparts. In addition to dominating the cable space in ‘early fringe,’ WAPA América also scored higher ratings than national broadcast networks Mundo Fox, Azteca America and Estrella TV during the same time period.During that time, WAPA América airs its 5pm newscast, Noticentro A Las 5, followed by the network’s original entertainment and investigative-reporting show Lo Sé Todo, the highest-rated program in Puerto Rico, where the show averages a 20 Household rating.“We’re incredibly proud of our season-to-date performance, which places WAPA America ahead of the biggest Spanish-language cable networks. Our strong ratings performance reinforces our delivery of content uniquely aligned to the culture and interests of the second largest Hispanic community in the country,” said Alan J. Sokol, president of WAPA’s parent company, Hemisphere Media Group.“More U.S.-based Puerto Ricans watch WAPA América’s 5pm newscast than Univision’s evening network news. WAPA América is the most efficient platform for national advertisers who wish to target Puerto Ricans and Caribbean Hispanics living in the U.S.,” said Nick Valls, Hemisphere’s EVP of National Ad Sales.
