Major League Baseball fans will get a rare and unique glimpse at the life and career of Puerto Rican superstar Carlos Beltrán in an exclusive special set to debut on Friday, October 18, 2013 on WAPA América. The special will air at 9pm ET. Hosted by Puerto Rican television host Liam Rodríguez, Un Día Con Carlos Beltrán (A Day with Carlos Beltrán) is an hour-long special in which a timid and charming Beltrán opens up about his life as an athlete—including his injuries and recovery—and the importance of his family throughout his journey. “I’ve suffered a lot of injuries in my career. My wife Jessica has been the person who has been with me throughout my entire career; through the ups and the downs,” reveals Beltrán in the special. Beltrán tells viewers how one of his lifelong dreams came true when, in August of 2011, he and his wife founded the Carlos Beltrán Baseball Academy (CBBA), a fully bilingual high school in Puerto Rico that encourages students to strive for academic excellence while pursuing their athletic goals. The special also pays tribute the legendary Roberto Clemente through exclusive interviews with his widow Vera Zabala and son Luis Clemente. Known as The Great One, Roberto Clemente was the first Hispanic to win a World Series as a starter (1960), to win a league MVP award (1966) and to win a World Series MVP award (1971). Beltrán is a current outfielder with the St. Louis Cardinals, and helped lead the team to a World Series victory in 2011.
