Bernarda Duarte, formerly of Univision, appointed VP and general manager of Meruelo Media

Bernarda Duarte, formerly of Univision, has been appointed VP and general manager of Meruelo Media and will immediately be tasked with the re-launch of Los Angeles’ channel Súper 22.The appointment is part of a strategy by Otto Padrón, COO and president of Meruelo Media, to position the Meruelo brand in the entertainment industry. The conglomerate is one of the most successful in the state of California with businesses ranging from fast food to real estate.Channel Súper 22 is the former Canal 22, after its affiliation with MundoFox, with its classic Mexican films of different eras.Meruelo allocated US$40 million to finance a plan that started with the acquisition of a 3-studio facility. It will house its News operations and will increasingly see the production of fictions with the Meruelo brand, which Padrón considers to be the products of highest demand.
