Globosat and Caracol Televisión have announced the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as the basis for a long-term agreement leading to the launching of a subscription-based Spanish language television channel in the United States. This project is aimed at offering the continuously growing 55 million Hispanic viewers in the U.S., a new programming option providing them with contemporary TV entertainment and high quality production. The MOU was signed this week between Gonzalo Córdoba Mallarino, president of Caracol Televisión and Alberto Pecegueiro, general director of Globosat. Details about the new channel will be announced shortly. “Globosat, founded almost 23 years ago, has acquired great experience in TV broadcasters launching in collaboration with large international groups. It is natural for us at this point to take a closer look at the fastest growing US sector, the Hispanic paid television market. Regarding Caracol, we admire the quality of the major producer of soap operas in Spanish, while we identify with its culture, values and entrepreneur vision,” said Pecegueiro. In this regard, Gonzalo Córdoba Mallarino stated: “For us, to have come to this agreement with Globosat is a matter of pride. It is the partner that we all want to have in this long-term project and with whom we expect to strengthen our presence in the US Hispanic market. This is a significant acknowledgement of the quality of Colombian TV production. We thus reaffirm our vocation for innovation and expansion in new sectors and markets with new and fresh contents in an ever more demanding sector”.
