(Maribel Ramos-Weiner). One of the benefits resulting from the network digital upgrade Comcast has been carrying out nationwide, is the addition of more Spanish-language channels for the cable company’s Latino packages. In South Florida, where the company has already completed the upgrade known as “World of more,” a second feed (time-shift) was added to the MultiLatino package, which includes the channels De Película, De Película Clásico, Semillitas, Telehit, Vme Kids, Cinelatino, Cine Mexicano, Galavisión, mun2, and VeneMovies. Multimedios was also added as a regular channel.“These time-shift channels have a three-hour differential with the East Coast. This gives viewers more variety of programming at any given moment,” said Lucía Rodríguez, Director of Multicultural Marketing for Comcast South Florida. She pointed out that for this year they would continue with the grassroots marketing initiative labeled La academia de acercamiento a la comunidad. “It is an opportunity to educate the public about our products and services and allow them to experience it first hand. It is a trailer that last year toured around the most important Hispanic markets, and was present at different celebrations and locations such as Chicago, Boston, Houston and California,” added Rodríguez.Additionally, Rodríguez said that the network upgrade should be completed by late 2011 or early 2012. On February 17th Comcast launched a new screen menu in the region as part of these changes.
