As part of the changes as a result of FOX´s exit from MundoFOX U.S., the channel’s new name will be MundoMax and it has just cancelled its national newscast Noticias MundoFOX with Rolando Nichols, which was aired at 5:30pm and 10:30pm. Nearly 35 people in the news staff were laid off.Ibra Morales, president of MundoMax, said in a statement: “RCN Television Group, the media conglomerate who owns 100% of MundoMax (…) is wholly committed to the success of MundoMax. Our broadcast network will officially be rebranded MundoMax on August 13th, on its three-year anniversary”. He stated that “in order to move forward and reposition MundoMax and fulfill its full potential, regrettably, it is necessary in the short term for us to eliminate a number of positions across various divisions”. Morales commented that they are currently evaluating their entire portfolio of content and restructuring it. The majority of MundoMax’s programming offering, both entertainment and news, will debut in 2016.PRODU spoke with Bob Behar, president and CEO at Hero Broadcasting, company that has several stations subscribed to MundoMax, expressed that he trusts the new path the channel will take, because RCN is a big company that had the initiative to buy FOX´s shares and continue alone on the project. Behar indicated that the network’s programming will remain similar, with biblical series, such as the Brazilian Moisés y los 10 Mandamientos and Reina Ester; Turkish novelas like Suleimán El Gran Sultán, and RCN´s products in prime time. They will also keep their commitment with realities such as 100 Latinos Dijeron produced by FremantleMedia for MundoMax.
