After a three-year hiatus, NBCUniversal returned to the iconic Radio City Music Hall to hold its Upfront with the attendance of some 6,000 people. Superstar Kelly Clarkson opened the event with her rendition of “Queen of the Night.”

Jeff Shell, CEO of NBCUniversal, in what was his first face-to-face presale event as head of the company, highlighted the depth and breadth of the group’s channels portfolio, the 60 million monthly subscribers of its AVOD platform, Peacock; the great moment that Telemundo is experiencing that “will be fueled with the 2022 FIFA World Cup this November”; the total integration of the company that offers more than 300 points of contact for its advertisers through One Platform. And also that from 2023 all Universal Pictures releases will have Peacock as their first pay-TV sale (previously they went to HBO).

“We believe that our true competitive advantage is the breadth and strength of our programming and platform. We manage it as one business. We run it as one business. We promote it as a single business with Symphony…And we sell it as a single business. We’ve been in the ad-supported video business from, literally, the earliest days of our company’s history. This is not an extension of our core business or an addition. It is our core business,” Shell emphasized.

During the event, an extensive offer for the channel portfolio in the areas of unscripted, comedy, docuseries, movies, sports, and news was introduced.

Among the new programming in the unscripted area are the Dancing with Myself competition presented by Shakira and Nick Jonas for NBC, a new season of Exatlón EE UU and Top Chef VIP for Telemundo; a new Password show with Jimmy Fallon; in drama Quantum Leap; Last Light with the return of Mathew Fox (Lost), and the Peacock Original drama, A Friend of the Family. In addition to highlighting the dramas La Reina del Sur 3 and El Señor de Los Cielos 8 from Telemundo.

Miley Cyrus with two musical numbers: “Wreaking ball” and “Like a Prayer”, closed the show.
