TelevisaUnivision announced the adaptation of the novel Pantaleón y Las Visitadoras, by the Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Mario Vargas Llosa. The story will be an exclusive series in Spanish for ViX+, the new subscription service, which will launch in the second half of 2022. The production will be led by Patricio Wills and W Studios.

The series will present an up-to-date version of the story of a captain who is selected for a secret military mission and creates a special service for prostitutes.

“As we continue to build a brand that will be iconic for Latino cultures, we are bringing together the Spanish-speaking creative community under one roof to enhance Hispanic storytelling and celebrate our unique and diverse stories,” said Rodrigo Mazón, EVP and general manager of ViX+. “We are proud to work with remarkable writers like Mario Vargas Llosa to continue developing together with the most prolific streaming service in Spanish.”

This is the second ViX+ adaptation of a book by the Peruvian author. The Travesuras de la Niña Mala series is in development.

ViX+ premium subscription tier (SVOD) will offer more than 10,000 hours of content, including more than 50 original series and movies in its first year. The free AVOD tier will be available on March 31 in the US, Mexico, and most Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America.
