Somos TV, owner of channel ViendoMovies, acquired the U.S. pay-TV broadcast rights for the Spanish comedies Una pistola en cada mano, from cinematographer Cesc Gay, and the Spain-Cuba co-production Clara No Es Nombre de Mujer. The deals were announced during the eighth edition of the Spanish film screenings Madrid de cine, which took place in the Spanish capital June 17th through the 19th.Despite the deep crisis the Spanish film industry is in, international buyers have continued to acquire Spanish films, albeit more cautious and selective than in previous screening.Other deals closed at Madrid de cine include the purchase by Wiesner Distribution of Puerto Rico of the movies from Imagina International Sales Esto No Es Una Cita and La Banda Picasso. DeAPlaneta International announced that Palmera International will premiere in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Costa Rica, the Spanish-Colombian drama Operación E. Organized by the Spanish Confederation of Audiovisual Producers (Fapae), Madrid de cine shared Spanish film exports figures, which last year grew 36.8% to €150.5 million (US$201.7 million). This growth is due in good part to the success of the Juan Antonio Bayona film Lo Imposible, which already premiered in over 70 countries and was recognized with the 2013 Fapae-Rentrak award for most successful Spanish film abroad.
