Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and The Mediapro Studio announced a co-development and co-production agreement. The deal is the first of its kind between the producers and as part of the agreement, SPT is set to produce a 13-episode, hour-long thriller titled Implacables Mexico.

SPT will have distribution rights in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico), Latin America and Canada and The Mediapro Studio will distribute in the rest of the world.

The series is originally based on a project titled 35 years and Counting created by Ran Tellem (Primetime Emmy Award-winning producer and creator of Homeland) and Mariano Baselga. Production is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2019 in Mexico City.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to be able to partner with The Mediapro Studio, a prolific creator of great content. Ran’s ability to create and tell such compelling and thrilling stories is sure to keep our audiences on the edge of their seats,” said Ana Bond, SVP and managing director, International Production, Latin America for SPT.

“Working alongside SPT in creating a premium thriller with the unique backdrop of Mexico City has been an incredible journey”, said Ran Tellem Head of International Content for The Mediapro Studio.

Implacables – Mexico tells the story of four detectives from different generations combining their experience to capture a serial rapist who has evaded the law for 35 years. Believing that his arrest would close the cycle, they discover that the case is just the tip of the iceberg of the largest and most dangerous human trafficking network, against which they must fight.
