Sony Pictures Television: Mexico is a strategic center for production of original content

For Sony Pictures Television (SPT), is a strategic center for production of original content for the region.“We’re interested in Mexico in particular because it has the best talent in the industry both in front and behind the cameras. Because of the vast physical space, our producers have access to a great variety of landscapes. Since SPT shoots the majority of its productions on location, this is extremely important. Teleset, our production company with offices in Mexico, has been very successful with productions El Mariachi and Señorita Pólvora,” told PRODU Angélica Guerra, VP and Executive Director of Production for Latin America and U.S. Hispanic of SPT.She says that in the next two or three years the company will grow its catalog with 15 additional series in Mexico, starting with Señorita Pólvora.“We plan to produce some 200 hours of programming in Mexico annually, an unprecedented volume of primetime content,” added Guerra.The first series the company produced in Mexico was El Mariachi, which was very successful this year when it aired on Canal Sony.Álex Marín, VP of Distribution for Latin America, said that the content produced in Mexico is generally liked throughout the region. “They set the standard, so, if something does well in Mexico, it typically appeals to audiences across the region. This kind of program is also very popular among Spanish-speaking viewers in the U.S., many of whom have their cultural roots in Mexico,” he added.
