Cristina Schwarz, executive with three decades of experience in local TV, has been at the helm of station WNJU Telemundo 47 of New York for the past eight months.“We’re excited about all our newscasts and what we’ve been able to achieve this year with the resources provided by Comcast-NBCUniversal and the support of Manuel Martínez, president of the Stations Group,” Schwarz told PRODU during a visit to the New York station. She points out the group has grown the team of anchors. “There is a strong team of four hosts from Monday through Friday, with the only Hispanic weather woman in the New York market, Andrea Romero, and we can now strengthen the weekends with three whereas before we only had one person,” said Schwarz. She also said the station has changed the show Acceso Total to better reflect the market and has achieved that goal with hosts Rafael Bello and Vicky Sosa. Acceso Total has provided good support to the Sales department.Other projects include Telemundo Responde, a program that serves as direct link with the consumer, and the Primero Alerta team with Andrea Romero (weatherperson), Victoria Sosa and Janice Bencosme. Schwarz emphasized the importance of joining forces with the iTeam of WNBC (NBC New York station), for high profile projects. She said that Liliana Aristizábal, new VP Ad Sales of the station, is analyzing the market to boost sales. “The Hispanic market in New York -including Univisión, Telemundo and UniMás-, is not getting its fair share. New York is the largest TV advertising market. TV alone represents US$1.1 billion,” added Schwarz.
