Telemundo will premiere the Turkish production El Sultán on Monday, December 2 at 8pm, which is based on real events.

A story of love, betrayal and passion, the series narrates the rise to power of “Suleiman the Magnificent,” one of the most important figures in the history of the Ottoman Empire. Barely 26 years old when he takes the reins of one of the world’s largest and most powerful empires, Suleiman’s quest to conquer the world will be complicated by a power struggle between the two most influential people in his life.

The story revolves around the relationship between Suleiman and Hürrem, an ambitious slave who becomes his wife and the love of his life. In her battle to secure her authority, Hürrem will have to face off against Ibrahim, a talented soldier who becomes Suleiman’s advisor and best friend. The two former slaves, now the most influential figures in Suleiman’s life, will face off in a mortal battle while trying to consolidate their power over the Ottoman Empire.

Starring Halit Ergenç and Meryem Uzerli, this is a high-quality production with impeccable attention to detail in its costume and set design. It includes scenes filmed at Istanbul’s Topkapi Palace, once the administrative center of the Ottoman Empire. It has aired in more than 40 countries around the world, making it one of the most successful and expensive series in the history of Turkish television.
