Televisión Dominicana acquires Dominican baseball rights for five years

Televisión Dominicana acquired the rights to Liga Invernal de Béisbol Dominicano (Dominican Winter Baseball League), for five years starting with the 2011-2012 season, which begins October 14th. The inaugural game between Tigres del Licey and Leones del Escogido will air live in the U.S. on Televisión Dominicana at 7:30pm.The channel will broadcast five live games weekly during the regular season. It will also offer complete live coverage of the round robin and the finals.“We are proud to bring the Dominican community in the U.S. all the action of our national sport. We are confident the Liga Invernal de Béisbol Dominicano will be well-received,” said Marta Turón, VP and General Manager of Televisión Dominicana.Teams participating in the Dominican Professional Baseball League this season include Toros del Este (defending champions), Estrellas Orientales (last seasons’ second place), Águilas Cibaeñas, Tigres del Licey, Leones del Escogido and Gigantes de Cibao.
