Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Televisa announced in Mexico the details of the event UFC 180, which features the fight between Caín Velásquez and Fabricio Werdum, trainers from the reality show The Ultimate Fighter Latinoamérica. The event will take place on November 15th at the Mexico City Arena and will air on the UFC Network and Televisa’s Channel 5.“The agreement we struck with Televisa in Mexico and with FOX in the U.S. –companies that share our passion-, makes it the perfect business at the perfect moment. The partnership with Televisa allows us to access this country after a 10-year wait. The November 15th fight will really surprise all the fans of our sport,” said Dana White, president of UFC. Lorenzo Fertita, CEO of UFC, was also in attendance and said the goal is “to bring big events to Mexico, because it’s one of the world’s largest markets. We not only want to bring this sport, but also have an economic impact like we had in Rio de Janeiro, where we generated over US$50 million in one weekend with this show. In Las Vegas we generated profits of over US$200 million for the city. Now with our partners at Televisa, we can spread and expand the UFC Network as part of the strategy and business plan for this market.”The Ultimate Fighter Latinoamérica premiered last Wednesday at 10:30pm on Televisa’s Channel 5, drawing 7 million viewers in Mexico.
