Catalina Porto de The Mediapro Studios México y Colombia

Ríchard Izarra, in #PRODUprimetime, interviewed Catalina Porto, an experienced industry executive who, after eleven years at Caracol Televisión, recently joined The Mediapro Studio as Content Director for Colombia and Mexico.

“I’m very happy. It is a big challenge. After spending 11 years in one company it’s not easy to join a new one, but I’m very happy because I’m going to be able to put into practice everything I know and my entire professional career in different areas. Managing two markets, and one like the Mexican which is so important is a great challenge. You have to get out of your comfort zone”, said Porto who began her new position on March 15, 2022.

ABOUT THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO
“Something very positive about THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO is that it invests in its projects, it invests in creativity. I think it is a great differential with respect to other companies”, said Porto.

COLOMBIA
There are two projects, Primate, already been released, and a trailer that has just come out of a series for Disney (referring to Siempre fui yo).

MEXICO
“I lived in Mexico for a great part of 2021 and it was a very nice experience. It is a very important market and I am happy to return and to be with one foot in Bogotá and the other in Mexico City. I have had the opportunity to meet many creators and producers. El Rey was a very enriching project and it helps me for what is new to come. In addition, Mexico is a very strategic market for The Mediapro Studio, a link between the company’s arms in the US, Europe and Latin America”, she pointed out.

PRIMATE
Primate (8×25´) is an original Prime Video series, produced by The Mediapro Studio, where Christian Tappan, a Colombian actor, is the creator, executive producer, and protagonist. “Now the actors or the creators don’t just stick to one activity, they explore other areas. In the case of Christian, who has been such a well-known actor in so many projects, he is now also making his debut as a creator, as a creative. In my very personal opinion, I feel that this must be respected a lot. First, because not everyone can do it, but when they do it, they do it very well, because they also come from that world, they have experience and sensitivity in terms of content, in terms of production. In Christian’s case, I feel like it’s been a super-positive experience, almost a case study.”

“The role played by Andrés Beltrán as director of Primate was fundamental, because the theme and the timing of comedy are very specific. He also contributed to the creative. The casting part, the production values, everything was very important. Really everything has been crucial there. This is what The Mediapro Studio wants to do, bring all its high-quality standards and join it with the great professionals in Colombia”.

SIEMPRE FUI YO
Another production by The Mediapro Studio in Colombia that will be released soon is Siempre Fui Yo, a series starring Karol Sevilla and Pipe Bueno. Its script writers are Marina Efron, Carmen López, Ignacio Campón, Luci Porchietto and Andrés Rappoport.

CONTENT
“In these almost two months at TMS I have met with creators of all kinds of formats: series, movies, scripted and non-scripted content, etc. When talking to clients, there is one thing that is very important right now, which is the return to melodrama”, concludes Catalina Porto, Director of Content for Colombia and Mexico at The Mediapro Studio.
