Lemon Studios: In the series Un Buen Divorcio I debuted as scriptwriter and showrunner

Billy Rovzar de Lemon Studios

In #PRODUprimetime with Ríchard Izarra, the founding partner and director of Lemon Studios, Billy Rovzar, talked about how with the series Un Buen Divorcio for ViX, he finally decided to venture in writing the script and becoming its showrunner for the first time, even though he studied to be a screenwriter and has been at the head of this production house for 20 years together with his brother Fernando.

BIRTH OF HIS FIRST PROJECT AS A SHOWRUNNER
His scriptwriting knowledge and production experience give Rovzar the opportunity to create high-quality content, such as Un Buen Divorcio (a good divorce), which he also pitched, becoming the longest pitch of his life: “It took us four hours and a half because we were presenting 11 projects, of which five were selected, one of them was this one, a dramedy that I call romantic dramedy, about a very successful couple of divorce lawyers, in which the husband asks for a divorce and throughout the series they try to save their marriage.”

“As a showrunner, my job is to take care of the script and the dialogues, I am very structured in how I write. I studied screenwriting as a way of being able to communicate with the writers, give them notes, and stand in a position where I know why something works or not. I worked with a group of writers for six months where I took care of the story,” he added.

TEAMWORK
Billy recognized the work of each of his colleagues and described Poncho Pineda’s performance as director as impeccable. “In Latin America, sometimes the series have the problem of tone, sometimes you jump from one thing to another, the characters do not have a certain coherence; If someone is volatile, he must remain volatile and you have to take care that this tone is maintained, and in that is where the connection between Poncho and I is very good.”

Regarding the VP of Production, Erika Sánchez, he said that she is the best crew builder. “If something has set Lemon apart in these years, it is that we have the best crews and that makes the series look better, run well, and have talented people.”

FIRST TIME WORKING WITH HIS WIFE
Un Buen Divorcio is the first production in which Rovzar works alongside his wife, the actress Claudia Álvarez, with whom he has been married for 11 years. “Working together was not something that happened right away, it took us a long time to find the perfect project to work together on. This one is really great because she plays a super complex character, with fears, mistakes, failures, and trying to hide who she really is. When I see her on the screen, she looks different, her voice changes, she readjusts her vocal cords, she knows her craft very well and even shows her comedy vein.”

THE BEST MOMENT
Rovzar confessed that this is one of the best moments for him professionally and creatively since he started 20 years ago. “I am happy and grateful to do what I love, it is a gift of life. This industry in which we are in is too beautiful, it is making gold every day and creating things out of nothing.”
