The young filmmaker, Luis Machín, was born in Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela, in 1990. After studying Audiovisual Arts at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, he moved to Monterrey, Mexico, where he currently serves as creative director for the Meraki Group, that encompasses two brands: Meraki Weddings and Cocula Films.

Q: What’s your first memory with a camera?
LM: On family trips. When I was younger, my dad used to always carry a handycam and all the time he would use it to record silly things.

Q: How do you define your visual style?
LM: Erratic, turbulent, violent. I believe that in these times of machines and perfection, one of the few human things that we still have is the ability to err. However, the needs of the market (and perhaps, adulthood) have soften me a bit.

Q: In what projects have you been working on?
LM: Throughout all the year we work in weddings around the country and in some areas of the US; Meraki Weddings never stops. On the other hand, we are in the process of generating monthly content (video clips + digital parcels) for a Monterrey record label. And we are in the post-production process of our first production in Madrid.

Q: Which have been your most recent clients?
LM: The most demanding: Siclo, a powerbike brand with offices at Mexico City, Monterrey and soon in Madrid. 87records, which is the record label for which we are going to start creating content. And couples around the country.

Q: If you could choose a brand to work with, which would it be?
LM: More than a brand, I would like to work with many diverse musicians in massive genres. From J Balvin to Kendrick Lamar.

Q: Where’s Luis Machín heading in the future?
LM: My goal is that Meraki Weddings continues to be one of the main references in wedding videography in the country and hopefully in Latin America, and to do the same with Cocula Films, but as a production house.
Personally, I hope to be a director and a video clip editor for authentic artists, those who define generations. And with much more experience being able to direct and edit a couple of feature films. I want to believe that if you work a lot you can strive to be meaningful.
