Enamorándonos, an original format by Turkey’s SoHo Formats, produced by SOHO Productions for Univision’s UNIMÁS in the U.S., has surpassed 1,000 episodes. Its next step in the region will be the distribution of the completed show.
Can Peker, executive producer at SOHO Productions for Enamorándonos on Univision, revealed that they are already in talks with a couple of countries in the region. “We want to distribute the completed U.S. Hispanic version because some countries don’t have the budget to produce it, and it makes more sense to provide them with the finished show. We have over 1,000 episodes. This is the route we want to take for Latin America,” said Peker.
Peker emphasized that they enjoy working with smaller TV stations in the region as they tend to have more patience for the format to grow. “Our format is a reality show featuring unknown people. We take them, and they become famous, developing their personas on the program. Then, after a few months, viewers begin to see it as a telenovela because they get familiar with the cast, feel close to the ‘lovebirds,’ and connect with the couples. The show essentially transforms into a telenovela. You have to let it grow, and smaller networks usually have that patience,” explained Peker. This was the case in Mexico with Imagen Televisión and Endemol Shine Boomdog, which produces the show.
“We’re supporting them and working closely with them. Ratings have been growing. In November, the audience was around 300,000 viewers aged 2+, and now it’s over 600,000,” he noted.
He added that, compared to last year, they are seeing growth. “This year, we started focusing more on ready-to-air content because we realized it’s easier to sell and faster to get on the air. Selling formats is a slow process. You need to sit down with a network, find the right one, and negotiate pricing. So we’re investing in this slow process while also increasing our presence at trade shows. Next month, we’ll be at NATPE Global, then MIPCOM in Cannes in October. We’re also considering MIP Cancun in November. We’re expanding the markets we attend. Last year, we did three; this year, we want to do four. We’re building relationships, and little by little, this will evolve into more countries producing our format,” Peker concluded.
