Alejandro Rojas, director of Applied Analytics at Parrot Analytics, commented on the report Repensando el Negocio de la TV en América Latina y el Mercado Hispano en EE UU, as well as on his presentation on MIPCancun Tuesday, November 17. He highlighted the trend of demand for teenage content, as well as for dramatic comedies and family dramas. At MIPCancun he will speak about the series that have done well on the OTT catalogs, such as the case of La Casa de Papel.

“We are experiencing an accelerated shift towards direct-to-consumer platforms due to covid-19, therefore it is important to know how to read the audience preferences at times when there is a lot of content and fragmented attention, with the purpose of evaluating what is the best content to produce," explained Rojas. Responding to audiences is vital.

The report analyzes the 50 most requested launches between January and May 2020 in Latin America and the US Hispanic market. Some of the findings are: Amazon Prime is gaining popularity, a trend that is highest in Argentina; in Mexico, the most requested digital content is Blim`s Nosotros Los Guapos. In the US Brazilian titles are gaining ground. In Colombia, the original Netflix series dominate the audiences´ attention. In Chile, series from Disney+ have great participation of the demand, despite not being officially available. Part of it is due to the megahit The Mandalorian, commented Rojas, a phenomenon that is repeated in most Latin American countries. Amazon Prime is the platform that has grown the most, he highlighted.
