Underground from Telemundo Streaming Studios (TSS) has just opened new offices within what is known as the audiovisual district of Buenos Aires City and announced the beginning of the development of Catedrales, Telemundo’s first project for HBO Max Latin America.

The new facilities, which will be the headquarters of Telemundo Streaming Studios Argentina and Underground, are located at 1509 Humboldt and cover a total area of 760 square meters divided into two stories of 380 square meters each. Each one has the best technology and infrastructure to develop series, films, and documentaries.

Catedrales is an intra-family drama with thriller passages based on the book by Claudia Piñeiro, who will also be the literary consultant for the project. Silvina Fredjkes will take on the adaptation with Alejandro Quesada and the executive production of Pablo Culell.

“We are delighted to announce the development of Catedrales for HBO Max in Latin America, it’s exactly the type of fresh and culturally relevant content that today’s audiences will expect. When combining our experience in script production with the incredible strength of this story written by Claudia Piñeiro, we are sure that Catedrales will be very well received by the public,” said Juan Ponce, SVP and general manager of Telemundo Streaming Studios.

“Without a doubt, the award-winning sixth novel by Claudia Piñeiro is a captivating thriller that slips away from the classic police narrative to plunge into family conflicts. Adapting this moving story that searches for justice, and is told with great courage without skipping the facts, without downplaying the actions or exacerbating the outcomes, will be a wonderful challenge where we will attempt to connect emotionally with the audience just as the novel has done with its readers,” said Tomás Yankelevich, Chief Content Officer General Entertainment, Latin America & US Hispanic, Warner Bros. Discovery.

Piñeiro said she was very happy and excited about the possibility that Catedrales would become a product hand in hand with Underground and HBO Max. “I think these are times when it is important to tell each other stories like this one, so we don’t make old mistakes and think together about a better world.”

“We and my team at TSS are very excited to begin the development of the latest novel by the talented Claudia Piñeiro, and to do it for a platform as important as HBO Max.”

Catedrales is an intra-family drama, with a good dose of thriller, that helps us to think about very sensitive issues such as religious fanaticism, abortion, and hypocrisy regarding part of the society in which we live, and that seduced us from the moment we read it. We believe it has all the potential to captivate Hispanic audiences,” said Sebastian Ortega, director of Development for Telemundo Global Studios.
