The second PRODU webinar held on Wednesday, May 20, Rescue Measures in the Audiovisual Industry, left clear differences between how the governments of Colombia, Mexico, and Argentina have assumed their commitment to workers and companies affected by the tsunami of the pandemic. The panelists were Mónica Lozano, President of the Amacc and CEO of Alebrije; Ana Piñeres, president of Asocinde, from Egeda and VP from CMO; and Diego Guebel, President of Capit and of Boxfish.

Although in the case of Colombia and Argentina there haven´t been any particular distinctions made with the audiovisual industry, companies and workers have been able to enjoy some aids. However, in Mexico not only have they not been posted, but there is a pending threat on the funds for cinema production.

Another topic that came up in the debate was that of the precarization of workers´ working conditions, ranging from lack of unions and working under the figure of the freelancer with no social security. “Societies that group in unions and respect workers´ rights are the ones that emerge,” said Ana Piñeres, after highlighting that more than confrontation, what is necessary is dialog. He assured that the future will demand to formalize workers´ situation. "You will not be able to have in a set a person who is not legally hired".

The topic of insurance policies, both medical for workers as well as to solve contingencies in the case of productions, also came up, making it clear that it is something that must be addressed in the future.
